HELP engine ticking
hi everyone, hoping someone can help. i had my car m.o.t'd on sat, i was told to get it as hot as poss for emmissions test (sportscat only) so gave it good run etc. while i was waiting for test, i heard my car redlined 6 or so times. emmissions pass so was happy, not about redlining though! anyway during a trip down to scoobyfest on sunday, sitting about 80 on motorway at 3000 revs ish, started to get a ticking noise.below 2800 and above 3200 its sillent. has anyone had this experience. to me noise sounds like its from camshaft area on the n/s ( battery side) thanks in advance for any comments / advise.

it is quite load, you can hear it in the cabin with a fairly load exhaust. seems to be coming from n/s cylinder head. going to check valve clearances to see if any are out. i hope they are !!! Thanks for replies .

thanks for replies. managed to find the area where it is noisiest, no 4 cylinder (next to starter) seems to be more the area around the block / head join, possibly thinking may be piston rings? anyone had this?

Get a screw driver and put your ear to the end, then move it around the engine block and heads...you should be able to tell where noise worst - ticking tends to be top end not bottom but that not always the case. Good luck.
