Default Calling you guys with oil temp gauge

Just a quick one,How long/how many miles do you have to drive from cold before the oil is up to temp?

Three miles of commuting at <= 40 mph sees 70 degrees, another mile and the cooler 'stat opens at 78 degrees.

As a general rule.... I'd say once the COOLANT temp is up to normal, then ADD around 15mins on from that point before oil temp would be too.

Oil is obviously more viscous, therefore dense, compared to water/coolant, so takes longer to conduct heat all the way through it.

Once my water temp hits normal (just below middle) my defi oil temp (main gallery above cyl #3) starts to move from it's 50c min. In this weather around 3-4 mins later oil passes 80c and sits around 90-93c thereafter.

In the winter it takes roughly twice as long, but the same thing applies with regards to the oil warming once the water reaches normal. I presume this is the modine doing it's thing..

FWIW I run a modded 05 wrx on Motul 300v 10w40 which is changed every 5k..

Mine is at about 75 degrees after 3-4 miles of driving and then we are good to go, you shouldn't be coming on boost before 70degrees

Thank's guys,i commute 15 miles and dont want to use boost if the oils not up to temp so i generally keep the car below 3k revs/light throttle for at least 5 miles and never really go over 4k for the whole trip (only sometimes )but i was wondering if that was enough to be safe.
I use 5w 40 millers cfs as i dont drive the car hard but i notice that it rattles a bit so will prob go for a 10w 50 next time.
