Default Throttle position sensor (setting up)

Hi all,

i was testing the voltage on a few sensors on my 1995 wrx and the throttle position voltage was out,

So i set it to 4.7v off throttle and 0.9v full throttle as the manual said (is this correct ?) but now it's idling ant 1500 rmp.

Is there anyway of lowering it or should i set it back to what it was,

Any advice would be great.

Before i adjusted it, it was 5.3 off throttle.

IIRC 4.7 volts closed throttle is right - if you put it back to 5.3v does it cure the high idle speed ?

Hi again,

Also if i set it up at full throttle to 0.9v when the throttle is closed it goes upto 5.3v,
With it set a 4.7v closed when its full throttle it goes to 0.4v and give's me code 31 which i think is tps.

Can anybody help?

Or is the tps fualty.

Code 31 is the TPS but if it idles ok @ 5.3v then i would leave it at that unless you have running/idle problems.
You said in your original post that you were checking the engine sensors - did you have a problem at the time or was it preventive maintanance ?
Could be just a case of - if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I was just giving it a once over as i came across this

JollyGreenMonster.co.uk

So i thought i would check a few things out,

But seems to run ok other wise, can be a little rice on full throttle sometime's as it dumps a bit of black smoke out the exhaust.

How accurate is your voltage-meter? that 0.4v difference might just be component drift in the meter. Surest way to test one is to put it across the terminals of a fully charged but disconnected car battery, or some other guaranteed fixed-voltage power source.

I also tried a second volt meter and they both give the same reading.

Here's another thought - did you measure voltage at the sensor, or at the connector on the ECU? Could be that the 0.4v is getting lost somewhere in-between, so the ECU is seeing the right voltage

I measured the voltage at the ecu,
I will take the voltage at the sensor tomorrow to see what i get.

I altered it as the voltage was a bit high as per the pin out's on your site so i thought i would turn it down i was getting 5.3v insted of 4.7v with closed throttle, Then it started to play up with idling high.

I have but it back to how it was and all's well again but the ecu is reading
5.3v again insted of 4.7v, does this matter or will it do any harm?

no I suspect your reading it out somehow.. else the ecu wouldn't have errored with it set to 4.7 etc

It's strange as i have tried two different volt meter's and there both reading the same.

looking through subaru w/shop manual, the voltage has a tolerance, 4.5 to 5.5 so yours is just in spec.
