wastegate chatter?
#4
Lol, for what seems like the umpteenth time this week, it's compressor stall not wastegate chatter. Are you sure the dumpvalve isn't working? You'd normally expect fitting an FMIC and IK to make all induction noises louder - normal DV operation included, so, is it possible that's what you're hearing?
If you're sure the dumpvalve has stopped, and it is stall you can hear, are you asking us why and how to fix it? If so a fuller description of your setup (model and MY of car, type of induction kit and IC, type of DV, any other significant mods, would be handy.

The Dumpvalve probably is working, if it wasn't working is suspect the car wouldn't idle properly as the springs are more likely to be too weak to hold the DV shut that to lock closed.
So in effect you have an air leak, car gets upset and stops!
The fluttering will be the induction kit and this is emphasised by the FMIC.
If you want to hear what the DV not workinf would sound like just take it off, shove a bung in the intercooler pipe and a screw in the valume pipe (small one off the top) and then give it a boot full..... you will soon hear the difference
Runnning wihtout a DV won't do a great deal of harm to the turbo for a couple of runs.

Yup still possible to have an air leak but it would be a very small one that you probably wouldn't notice until you hit full boost...... I doubt you have a leak any way, was simply pointing out that the DV probably is working, you just aren't hearing it or he sound is just blending in with the res tof the wooshing sounds from the Engine.

Nothing coming out?? Was he running along side the car? As far as I'm aware the car will make VERY little to no boost sitting still unless you have anti lag so if it dumps anything it will barely be noticable as there is no pressure to discard of
I could be wrong and am will ing to stand corrected!

I think he meant he put his foot down in neutral and his mate put his hand near the dump valve which would cause the dump valve to vent built up turbo pressure? Or am i just chatting waffle?
