Question Car struggles to hit 4k revs

Hi all. I just been out in car and it is struggling to reach 3.5k-4k revs. Boost guage goes to 0 and stays there. Car does not have engine light showing and also car has no noises/rattles. The only thing i have done recently to car was add the bung for exhaust.

I will check engine codes in morning as it is dark now. Only things i can think that caused the problem are:
  • Loose hose/pipe (had a quick look and can't see any loose)
  • MAF or C02 (would they not put engine light on?)
  • Turbo dead (Although when i revved hard bov tries to kick in)
  • Bung in exhaust (can not see that stopping revs)
Any ideas/help? Oh car is a 1998 impreza sti v4.

Thanks.
Paul

ECU gone into limp home mode? Reset ECU.

Is the speedo working - is the odometer or needle working? If not then the speedo sensor on the gearbox tells the ECU to limit revs.

Right i think it is sorted now. Went out earlier to check if any error codes and it came back with nothing. So lifted bonnet to see if anything is out of place. I found a piece had come off on the turbo. The metal rod on the actuator had come off the it's pin. Put it back on and started car and did a quick hard rev and bov kicked in so looks like it is sorted. Will know later when i go and book service.

This is the piece i mean. Where the rod connects to the pin. Will i need to tighten the rod a bit or will it be ok?

There should be a circlip to hold the rod on the pin - if missing then put another on.

Needing to adjust the rod length depends on how tight the locking nut is (if fitted). With the rod loose and flapping around there is a chance for the rod to wind out longer by itself.

I am guessing the circlip as gone as i never seen it when i put rod back on. Will any circlip do or does it need to be a certain type? Halfrauds do a bag of mixed sizes for £7. Thanks

Ok thanks all for the help. Off to get circlips. I had visions of needing a new turbo.
