Default Best Impreza for throttle response

I'm looking at changing my V3 Sti Wagen

What Impreza should I be looking for which has the most responsive throttle, especially lower in the rev range?

In other words, least, or even no lag with a more available and linear power delivery?

What about the JDM's with twin scroll? Or is there a modified version to look for?

Budget £9K

Thanks

2.0 normally aspirated car ? :-)

I'd have thought the VF36 roller bearing twin scroll Spec C would be the fastest to respond.

Remaps can help also ?

As above, reckon twin scroll would be the best compromise - or you could add a supercharger for a bit more low down boost, then let the turbo take over higher up the rev band

yeah, and its actually been done as well... this is a bit extreme but its a pic of a twin turbo impreza with a supercharger as well:

No idea of the specs tho, but I'll bet it would be fun to drive!

Yeah, pretty impressive setup - also saw a vid on YouTube about a guy who converted his Impreza turbo to supercharger-only forced induction... it worked, but not as well as the original turbo. I know the Golf GT's are using a supercharger / turbo combination on their 1.4 these days so it may be the way to go

Or... you could fit a Legacy twin turbo engine (not sure how hard that is to do) for some more low down spool / torque; I think someone on here has done that but I'm not sure

Those options sound fun and interesting.

I suppose you're into the finding one already done option with that as resale value starts to rear it's head?

The JDM or spec C option looks the easiest option, although I do prefer the old shape for looks. Suppose we have to move on though. I liked the old Mini's I owned, but there's no going back to one of those

I know - rubber suspension has thankfully gone the way of the dodo!

Those are fairly extreme, and I would imagine those who have created working versions are either tuners experimenting to see if its possible or folk who have invested a lot of time & cash into their car - neither are that likely to sell for a reasonable price...

I agree with you about shape preference, I've got a 1997 classic myself and prefer that over the newer ones, but its all down to taste. The Spec C with twin scroll would be a great car I reckon (never driven one) but something to consider is that the newer Legacy estates that used to come with the twin turbo setup are now using single twin scroll turbos, which is promising. There are also a lot more available to choose from, which helps. Good luck in the search anyway mate
