how do you tell if its a v3 sti engine and not just a 96 onwards uk or something, are the heads different to look at from the outside?
cheers phil.

a v3 sti would probably have a red intake manifold, sti marking on intercooler, if its english a td05 turbo, turbo 2000 have a td04... if its jap a vf23 turbo.. is it just a engine or whole car? and is it a standard engine? you could check the colour of the injectors, jap wrx's have yellow 440cc one's, not sure about sti's do... dont think there is a difference in heads or much else..

Yeah...
- Red manifold (prob most of the paint gone lol)
- VF23 turbo
- Yellow 440cc inj
- STi silver IC with metal/silicone inlet pipe/hose combo. Also has the DV outlet at the extreme passenger side of the IC as a 90deg curved short metal pipe.
- Coilpack is to the passenger side of centre on the inlet manifold.
- Driver side black plastic cam cover will hpoefully have the engine code label still present... Should read "EJ20KDW6PR"
Of course, the above ID info is useless if the lump in question is anything other than bone-stock!
