Default Judder

really need some experience here.

im getting terrible judder when i turn left and i small amount when in straight line. I get nothing turning right.

took it to kwik fit and humphries today and had it on ramps etc but they can find nothing wrong. they were stumped. had about 8 people look round the car.

I thought it would be the ball joint but that is fine. cv is fine, drop links, top mounts, calipers, lower arm, ARB all fine. All bolts tight.

i have brake judder slightly at mo and im going to be getting brake discs skimmed but i dont believe this can be the problem as it maintains same gap left or right turning.

i do have a metalic tapping noise when i hit small bumps but nothing on big bumps/normal road.

no judder on full lock

drive shaft moves slightly in position if grabbed

i know its a hard one without looking at car but has anyone seen this before. was told possible engine mounts but engine is solid in there.

seem to be living in this section at moment

for those who dont know the engine was removed and replaced recently also clutch. gearbox remained on. if this helps in diagnosis

What speeds does it do it and do you feel it thru the car or thru the steering wheel?

is it judder or vibration ? , from my experience vibration would suggest a bearing going/gone somewhere, judder sounds more like something within the drivechain trying to do something it shouldn't, get someone else to drive the car get in the front/back and try to find out which corner of the car its coming from , also jack the car up grab hold of the wheels and see if theres any play in the bearings rock them them from side to side up and down etc, although this should have been an easy problem to spot at Kwik fit.

vibration could be a knackered wheel bearing? have they been checked ? lets us know what the garage finds

Hello Mike,

Haven't checked wheel bearings.

garage had a look and the engine mounts weren't as tight as should be. they are not sitting dead centre on each mount, not sure if they have to mirror each other in position. they couldnt see anything else wrong underneath.
Going to go back and check tyre balancing as they may have flat spots. was sat for 7 months in same position.

Thing is, its worse now then when i went in. the vibration is there in a straight line now. wondering if it is the engine mounts

still nothing turning right

thanks for input as this has got me stumped
