Had similiar problem on one of mine, drove me mad,
took apart rebuilt again, with help of a garage, turned out to be the imobiliser,
RAC came along as i was recomended to do, pushed it to top of road, they got a book out of the van , did something with the fob and key in the ignition and it started,
Could be a coincedence,
Let me know how you get on,
my engine in was out for 8 months
ps the car was a 98 uk turbo

Could it not be any one of the 4 camshafts in the wrong place/wrong way round during the rebuild? This has happened before to someone on here...

Obviously serious det there... but do you know the actual cause/causes for it to melt the way it did?

What was the prognosis... or even better, the actual diagnosis?

Maf Sensor went,
When we had all that snow i went though a 3ft deep patch ripping my inner arch out and sucking aload of water in, after 2-3 miles it conked out and took ages to start but got it going in the end, after that show it didnt idle jumping about, being an idiot i drove it around and about 3 weeks later after racing down the a419 in swindon at 140+ witch i new i shouldnt have, then the big bang and pressureize the crank case pushing sump oil out of engine opps.

Yes sorry, you're right.

And OP, sorry to hear that.

But well done on building a new engine (wish I had the skill/patience/time to be able to do that ).
