if u are putting out low boost chances are ur in limp mode but yes if u were running on 3 u would get relly slow to build boost and revs , connect the two black connectors underneth the steering wheel and turn the ignition to on but dont start , the read the check engine light , a long flash means 10 a short flash means 1 for example
+ = long flash
- = short flash
+++--- would mean 33
u may only only get one code but if u get more than one then it will repeat istelf over
for example :

+++--- then +- then ++++- then +++--- then +- then ++++-
33 , 11 , 41 , 33 , 11 , 41 see it reats itself over and over this is an example of 3 codes displayed 33 , 11 , 41 then repeat u may only get one .
if u dont get any then ur are probably getting engine knock , plz dont anyone say that u would get a code for the knock sensor because i am one of three people i have known who all had this problem with no check engine light showing all it showed was a continous flash whch means no code or ok , sorry m8 if u already know how to read the codes no offence but there are people who dont ? if u are running on 3 then a closed spark plug gap , faulty coil pak / broken wire to coil pack / coil pack plugged into wrong cylinder and sometimes a crank or cam sensor can be at fault but would mostly give a non start so i doubt its these two ? also try a compression test just to be sure

i also had a bad timing belt tensioner that made the timing belt jump a tooth on one of the cam pulleys , gives a running on 3 symptom slightly but most times it would not start these are bad for going on some models but not often

thanks for the reply, i was just wondering if my other problem on my other post could be causing me to run on 3 cylinderd but i dont think it would, i did try all the coils with a plug in to see if they have a spark and they do, so i cant be on 3 cylinders, the fault check will come in handy though, thanks very much, all the best, phil.
