1999 UK wrx are you sure,not a turbo 2000?
anyhoo yes basically i've used most of the SUL avaliable in my 93wrx and it just didn't seem to like BP Ultimate (ok i know the ecu is cruder compared to the later ecus).
Tescos 99,V power ,Total Excellium all seem fine imo 9this does include reseting the ecu after filling up.

I found that my uk 99 was more sensitive to the grade of fuel after a remap with 97.
V-power is the only one I've had with no issues.
A tank of BP resulted in the knocklink starting to flash, which I presume was the ECU changing parameters.
I also had short period where the car refused to go over 5000rpm without feeling someone had stamped on the brakes. This was after filling with Tesco 99.
Changing to V-power made it go away.
Just circumstantial, but enough to keep me away from supermarket petrol for my STI.

v-power all the way .... they have a special formula unlike most others who just add an additive to their petrol to get the higher octane level. I emailed them a while back regarding this as i had heard that most companies except shell v-power source they're fuel from the same containers and the drivers just add an additive depending on which pump the fuel is going to. This was the reply i got from shell:
Reza,
You are correct that V-power is supplied separtely to other super
unleaded fuels, and does not come from a batch to which an additive
package is added. The V-power package and formulation is unique to
Shell.
In terms of RON, V-power is guranteed RON of 99, and based on typical
production is 99.2
Best Regards,
Rob.
Hope this helps ....

Many swear by V-power, but my car runs 'better' (smoother and gives better MPG - by about 10%) on Sainsburies super than it does on anything else I've tried like V-power and Tesco 99 (was OK on Tesco 97, but can't get that now).

my 98 turbo 2000 only made 289bhp on BP ultimate with a dastek unichip - mapper said it was quite modest for the other mods I have Walboro, sports catted downpipe, decat centre, 440s, aeromotive fpr, etc etc so avoid BP. Was told that they run more ignition advance on shell an tescos......... whatever that means??? lol
Guess what the old girls getting remaped on!

there's been a few threads on this... most people on here prefer v power, i can remember reading a thread and a member who worked in a refinary or somewhere like that did some research and found v power to be the most complete... it conaints additives which reduce engine wear etc, unlike ultimate, tesco etc
