Afternoon all !

A bit of help from you techies out there if you don't mind.

Running a pretty standard UK 97 Saloon, only mods are a full decat & K&N Filter. Boost 0.8 Bar..

Car has been starting like a pig most mornings for a few weeks now, coughs & splutters like a goodun, almost like it's miss firing... Also getting about 30 miles less to the tank of squirt.
5 mins up the road and it will either still be struggling to get going or run like a goodun :O) Very hit and miss and intermittent.

Yesterday it stalled on me and wouldnt start for 10 mins, and has stalled once today (fortuneatly started again first time) and coming up the M1 30 mins ago at a steady 70 on the inside lane, car was backing off then back on again every 10 / 20 seconds without me moving accelerator at all (

Have looked through various posts on here and elsewhere and a lot of the symptoms point to the MAF. Bad luck for me it's one of the purple label ones that are £332 from my local Scooby Dealer...

I've owned the car for the last 7 years and it hasn't had one.... !

Any help / suggestions greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention the lovely puff of smoke when the engine starts in the morning and that lovely "rich" smell...... ! Also a lot of carbon deposit around the exhaust.....

No better today (no surprise there), didnt get a chance to warm it up before leaving this morning and for the first couple of miles I think I could have pushed it faster !

Any ideas before I go raid the bank ?

It could be a number of thing take it to a garage and get them to put it on a diagnostics computer that should chuck up an error or two ! if not piggy bank it is
