anyone know about fiesta zetecs?
hi my old dears car is being a t**t,its a 98 1.4 16v zetec and the idle starting going up and down,so i replaced the plugs,a new idle valve, and cleaned throttle body, the revs do stay steady now but miles to high, start the car and it idles at around 1500rpm hot or cold and revs can climb to 2.5-3k,if u dip the clutch the revs drop to 1300 ish then climbs back to 2.5 ish,it drives itself, really enoying and i dont want to tell her to replace this, replace that cause its costing a fortune, anyone know of this problem? i know it aint no scooby but would be great to get some help on this!thanks in advance

i know water temp sensors can cause this not very costly to replace ether, its sending a cold signal to ecu all the time wether hot or cold...obviously it wants it when cold a little for choke etc but when it warms up its supposed to send a diffrent signal to ecu to close bypass valve in throttle body and bring revs down wen hot

thanks guys,i replaced the maf with one from a breaker but it was a 1.25 zetec and im not convinced its the same, car seemed to develope a flat spot under acceleration so i stuck the old one back on for now,its a bit awkward to know wether to keep replacing sensors etc or get it on the diagnostic machine, she has very little money at mo and was hoping for a quick fix,bit unsure what to do next!

in the middle of the inlet manifold is a breather hose with a t peice in the middle of it, what u will more than likely find is that eaither the pipe has collapsed or even more common is that its split.

my wifes old car had exactly same symptoms , in the end i got rid of it as it would start to accelerate when you were trying to slow down, found out after its a well known problem with fords throttle body assemble, the garage i traded it in at had to replace it , after that they said it was ok, if i can i will try and find out exactly what the problem was .

sorry , but they have gone out of business, i can only suggest you ask a non ford dealership, an independent garage, as they might by more honest about admitting its a known problem,

thanks anyway,at the moment i have a list of about 10 bloody things that it could be and better still i am with the understanding that i still might not be able to cure it even if i replace all the parts that it could be,sounds like a right nightmare and expensive to find out!
