Default 0304 missfire on 4

has anyone heard of neutral position sensor on sti myo2 gearbox playing up and causing the above fault code ?

I was under the impression that the NPS switch only appeared as a misfire code on the WRX but the Sti did not record a fault at all, I have the NPS fault on mine with no trouble codes, I have scoped the switch and can see it faulting.

Why does the ECU need to know the vehicle is in neutral, can't it just work out from vehicle speed and throttle position?

can you tell me where it is mate(nps as you call it lol)as its doing me in now on off on off.if it is possible to get to simon at jgm said you can put thinner washer on it so tip is further in and get away with buying new one.
