Default external wastegate advice

I want to fit a External wastegate to my 95 WRX. Is this something that can be done easily yourself. If so does anyone no of any online guides or instructions. What wastegates do you recommend and what size.
Thanks

Its standard. A friend has one and he swears his has the standard turbo. The previous owner must have changed it and he just dont no about it. Ive never seen under his bonnet so i cant say myself.

Why would you want to go to all the hassle and expense of fitting an external wsategate to a standar turbo ???

first up - why ?

then an external gate can be fitted to any turbo even the std oem turbo
the external gate is actually fitted to the up pipe and the turbos normal actuator flap gate thingy is either welded or bolted closed and all boost control is via the ewg
typically top end power increases with ewg and you get super stable boost control

Spend your money on more worthwhile mods.

Mine is making a strange noise when you let off at full boost and a rattling noise on idle.
Ive been told it needs replacing and wonder if an external one would fit.

if those are the only reasons you asking about ewg then either replace your actuator with a known good one or fit another bigger turbo - i am with trails on this one
if you were aiming for large power then its another story
also remember on the right hand drive cars - the brake cylinder / steering column all make it a tight fit that link posted probably wouldnt fit a rhd car anyway (being a usa based vendor)

If I replaced the turbo what would be a sensible option for more power but still being reliable.
I have the usual mods.

Apexi power FC with Commander
Apexi induction kit
HKS Headers
HLS Down pipe
HKS Exhaust system
Walbro 255LPH fuel pump
Denso spark plugs

Im getting some pink injectors FMIC and a Apexi boost controller in the next couple of weeks.
