URGENT EXPERT ADVISE PLEASE
Basicaly is this ok as i ignored some damage all the time i have been stripping and re painting my engine bay which now looks great but dont want to put my forged engine in an unsafe shell. (appologies for the blunt thread, wanted to keep it simple)
I know the front end is pissed and i can tell from the difference in welds (MIG) it must have had a fron ender at some point and someone has had to reconstruct/replace the front end.
What do you think????

has the chassis be straightened???
i would advise you take it to a body shop and have it laser aligned they will then be able to see how far the chassis is out and straighten it. you would need all the panels for the car.

i dont know all i can say is that the kinks that you can see in the pics dont seem to have been pulled out and the front end has definately had to be re-fabricated. with the bonnet, front bumper, grill and wings on you would never know there was anything out of the ordinary.

does the front end line up? it looks to me as it has been jigged straight and left as is and had new front panels on?? if thats the case the case it should of had new chassis legs on either side to regain the structural rigidity.

Get it laser jigged. It will cost a few pence, but weighting it up again peace of mind and more importantly safety I'd get it done.
Once its done, keep the jig reading and stick it in with the history saves others going through the same problem should you choose to sell it.
Alternatively, contact the previous seller and ask?

The car wants putting on a laser alignment jig & checking out before you refit the engine, & if it is ok which i would be suprised, you could at the least do is strengthen the chassis rails.

If you don't do anything about it, by the look of the damage nothing much will happen if the car is used for general driving, but if the car is a track toy, or it it given a hard time on the road, basically put under any stress the damage can increase and twist further resulting in the car not tracking striaght.
But the most important thing, should you be in a accident the car would be far more likely to cause major damage.
I know we all say I'll never be in an accident, but planning for the worst is something you need to do when car safety is concerned.

Im in south east london. I really need to sort something out as ive spent so much time and effort painting the engine bay top to bottom and getting it so great.
Also im having the outside of the car proffesionaly painted the same pearlesant orange colour as the ford focus st So dont want to make a work of art out of this shell only for it to be ruined in a year or two.

A mate of mine had an Integrale a few years ago which he overshot a junction in. He mounted the kerb and as a result the roof kinked. His insurance company examined the car and refused to pay the value of the car as it had previously been damaged and not properly repaired. The chassis rails had not been replaced apparently after a front end shunt. He had the car independantly examined and they confirmed the findings of the insurance company. They paid out based of the car being previously damaged and so he received peanuts. If you're puttingin a forged engine, could you afford for that to happen?
