Default Spare Keys?

Bought a 54 plate WRX with one key. Factory fitted alarm has been replaced with a Toad Sterling one alarm/immobilser.

Went to get a spare key cut, but the bloke said that the key had some sort of chip in it and had to go to specialst to get a spare, could cost £50.

Is this a blag? if not as the factory alarm is now disabled, would it matter anyway?

Cheers!!

£50 is an under estimate. More like £120 after a main dealer has reprogrammed it to your car . Thats what I paid 5 years ago on my Classic.
Why was the OE alarm replaced ? Is it a UK spec car?

No 50 quid is about right. It all to do with the transponder chip in the key, needed to start the factory immobiliser. I doubt that has been removed.
You can do it a cheaper way, look for a blank key on ebay, and it should only cost the cutting and coding then, a tenner.
