Question Engine Tuner 2.1 builds

have got a few questions for the people out there who had had one of these 2.1 builds done

a) what was the engine spec
b) what power/lbft are you running
c) other engines mods turbo etc
D) what is it like to drive

and any pics if you have them

thanks

You really need a test drive, I would !

Trouble is every one could end up a different spec, mine is (probably!) being done at the end of this year... if I'm lucky and it lasts !

More than welcome for a test drive in mine, I'll be collecting mine in a few weeks time, I went for Wiseco 92.5mm stroker pistons and crower rods instead of the wossner items...

Spot on!, identical to mine apart from the brand variation on the rods, pistons and bearings, are you going to be using a closed deck block?

Around £150 - £200, its worth the money and hassle if you do decide to run more than 450bhp in a reliable manner

The cost of each build varies depending on application and components used, expect to pay anything between £3k - £4k fitted

Im assuming that you will be using the version 6 heads so yes inlet manifold will fit straight on as well as all other ancillaries, however the closed deck block will need to be rear thrust converted which costs roughly £200 its best to check the price with Alan...

Really?! So for the two naked CDB block halves, then just £150-200?! Would these be servicebale 2nd hand items - rather than brand new - I take it? (I had no idea they were so cheap! ).

yes second hand, thats just bare blocks they come up on here quite often and on ebay from time to time, as they were standard on all early MY93-MY96 cars

The bare CDBs don't cost much Ian. There are a few knocking around always. The thing to bear in mind is that whatever you're going to do with your build, they'll always need boring/honing/decking/prepping etc like any other block and from the outside they're the same except for the crosshatching in the casting. The ancillaries all fit the same. If you're going with v6 heads then your late inlet will also be a straight fit. The trouble comes with getting the CR right when you fit early blocks with late heads, but it's not much more than choosing your gaskets carefully and getting the deck height/pistons/head height spot on.

This gets better! I have a MY93 - so it has a CDB?! I thought the early cars had the 'inferior' OBD?

However, I've just had my engine rebuilt and ZEN kindly threw in, free of charge, a 2nd hand refreshed block (it needed one!). It could, therefore, be a ODB that I've got now. But it's not a problem, as I'll only be modding to 350/350.

We're starting to find it harder to get really good CDB's. Sometimes they are damaged, overbored already or heavily corroded. Of course we work out CR's often preferring to modify the heads to suit. Every engine is different of course, depending on the details.

Closed deck blocks are not standard on all 93-96 cars. They came on 89-93 single turbo leggy, 93-95 wrx ra and sti ra and by chance a few odd wrxs.

We would never just fit an open deck block in place of a closed deck block!

Talking of 2.1 engines Paul, any chance of getting that quote over to me this week?

I thought that was the case.
