Default Engine warning light/MAF sensor

I'm living in France where I have a MY02 bugeye Impreza. The local dealer has told me that the warning light is on due to a dodgy MAF sensor. There is a bit of hesitation between 3-4K when accelarating hard.

I have been quoted around 600 euros for a new MAF sensor - really!

Does anyone know if a UK-sourced MAF sensor is cheaper and if it can be fitted to a French-supplied Impreza?

Most parts down here are normal price but sometimes there are strange situations like this....!

Sounds more like it. The dealer here showed me a diagram of the whole airbox assembly so I think he is trying to get me to buy the lot! Do you happen to know if a UK part will be compatible to a French model? Can't see such parts as MAF sensors varying between EU cars?

I wouldn't necessarily condemn the MAF on someone's say so.

You can check for its error code (or obviously ANY code) via the OBDII port. You do need access to a PC/laptop, the software and cable though:-

I think codes P0101, P0102, P0103 and P1141 point to the MAF being faulty:-
