Default Boost solonoid

Can someone tell me where the boost solonoid is on a 97 v3 type r. Would this be the cause of boost surge? I have a full 3 '' system on my car and a bov, other than that its pretty standard but I do get a pulsating effect sometimes when I floor it in say 3rd or 4th gear..

I cant work out what it could be, im not sure if the exhaust is the problem or if I just need to clean the boost solonoid,,,aghhhhh

Please see post number 18 on this thread to see what the boost solenoid looks like >>>>> https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...fo-needed.html

It's located on the driver side turret and you will see it straight off. Note the bracket holds other bits and bobs too.

As for cleaning it someone queried it already so see this thread>>>>>

https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...wage-help.html

The cleaning method is the same for all scoobs.

You sure your not just getting fuel cut? This usually occurs around the 5k RPM.....especially if the air is dense. Will feel like the car just cut out and then comes back to life, or if its minimal cut then the car will just pulsate.

Good Luck

Could be fuel cut, is there away to stop this. As I have no plans to modify the car I was thinking of putting the standard downpipe on, would this help?

Yes the standard downpipe will stop the overboost causing the fuel cut. Had the same problem when I decatted my sti 3, cured it by fitting a boost controller.

Looking at your spec, i'd be suprised if it was the sports cat causing this. You would know if it's fuel cut as it's quite harsh, like jamming the brakes on!

Sorry mit, thats my old car, I just havnt got round to updating. I presume its because I have a full 3'' system from turbo back. I think I will replace this with the standard downpipe...cheers

It;s not the reccommended way but you could use the HKS Fuel cut defender, this should only be used if you plan on not doing anymore mods.

Fuel Cut Defender (FCD) | Boost Controllers & Electronic | Demon Tweeks Motorsport, Motorcycle, Modifying, Parts and Accessories You should discuss this route further with Jolly Green Monster on here though.

The reccommended method to overcome this would be to Re-map the whole lot, with an aftermarket ECU....these babys rock. This will also allow you to run higher boost if needed.

If your not modding any more, then i'd fit the cat back in.
I should have paid more attention to the post!
