The lump will need to come out, heads off, block split, crank out, new crank in, reassemble everything, put it back to the car. So 'not cheap' is probably my best estimate.

Mark,

It's big job, and it HAS to be done right, or you'll only end up with more engine problems. TBH I'd say you're looking at quite a bit more than £500. There are a lot of so called "performance car experts" who will give you a great quote, but not have a clue what they're doing. My advice is to take it to a recognised Subaru expert e.g. APi. It'll cost you more, but it'll be right! A cheap quote isn't cheap if you have to pay to get the cheap work sorted properly.

Get the job done right first time, pay once.

Give David at APi a ring and he'll at least tell you what you need to have done and a ballpark figure. Forewarned is forearmed!

All the best,

Ns04

Sorry to ask a really daft question - why do you need a new crankshaft? Has a big end gone?

I reckon it would be cheaper to get a used engine or a block.

no the crank was bent by the previous owner trying to get the pulley off without the right tools and just used brute force the car is drivable just dont want to ruin the block so want to get it changed before the real damage is done if sourced all new parts just need it fitting
