Question Help: Defi Oil Temp Issue

Guys

I have the usual Defi Link Meter gauges in my classic (linked using the control unit II). On the way home the other night, while waiting in traffic my oil temp started to show some strange readings. It shot up from a steady 95 to 120 then back down to 95..... then back up to 130.

The normal defi warning buzzer kicked in and I pulled over and turned the engine off for 20 mins or so. During the rest of the journey home the oil temp was fine.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Or can anyone advise what to do next? new oil temp sensor maybe?, if so where from???

Thanks in advance.

could be a dodgy earth or a dodgy sender. My Defi oil temp has been consistant for ages with no dodgy readings at all.Having the Sender fitted to a sandwich plate by the oil filter causes some odd readings which is why i asked the question

What was the car's water temp gauge reading? If your engine is really running that hot, it would show. And you'd prolly get a smell, too. Engine oil level okay? Water level okay, thermostat sticking? Relatively easy things to check and they need checking, just in case. You fitted a gauge for a reason

It's easy to check the sensor by popping it in a mug of boiling water when it should read, erm, 100 deg

I have Defis and the EGT sensor is a bit dodgy, but it either reads fine, or it reads zero. Doesn't go up and down like yours is doing.

Richard.
