Default What headgaskets for a classic running 300bhp?

As per my posts of about two weeks ago, my car will soon be going for new head gaskets.

One place told me I'd need special gaskets, soild copper ones?

His price for the repair was higher than the other, but I'd rather get it done strong, you know, so any advice appreciated.

3 layer metal cometic head gaskets are ment to be good. arp head bolts also make your top end bit more solid.

any of the tuning companys will advise you. im dealing with roger clark at the moment

stock subaru gaskets should be fine, most of the imports are around 300bhp anyway

i've got a set of standard subaru ej20 gaskets for 97 classic if you want them.

i don't see why you would want to put in standard ones though be as well putting in uprated ones while your there and uprated head bolts eg arp.

if a jobs worth doing its worth doing right.

Got it booked in for next tuesday, so I'll have a word with the guy doing it, tell him to go ahead with uprated gaskets and headbolts.

Any particular make of bolts?

Not had any trouble using std subaru MLS gaskets with ARP Head Stud kit, provided the Studs are fitted/torqued correctly.

Could be down to many things, flatness of head or block surfaces. Studs stretching.

A different brand of gasket isn't going to do diddly squat if the surfaces are warped.

Get the mating surfaces checked for any uneven spots. Then get some decent heads studs. I've used ARP 11mm bolts and they've been fine at 450+. I'm about to see if they cope with 550+
