URGENT HELP PLEASE
Can someone please tell me if the bugeye has an oil pressure warning light on the dash.
My gauge went down to 0 on boost the other day. pulled over expecting to hear the dreaded noise but nothing.
started her back up and had pressure on gauge.
Lost it again yesterday. no warnings or light on dash. checked oil for anything metal etc and was clean.
Is there a way of checking oil pressure?
Please help as i thought it was just the sender playing up on the gauge but ive now been informed there is no warning light on the dash/speedo.
ive been driving her about 10 miles so guess damage is already done but there is no noises

your car will have an oil pressure switch therefore it will defo have an oil light on the dash.
the dash light takes very little oil pressure to turn it off. basically remove the oil pressure switch and screw in a gauge, remove the crank sensor plug so it wnt start and crank the car over and check wat pressure u get.
old classic model have a problem with the oil pressure release valve in the pump sticking open so basically you lose oil pressure but dash light will stay out. not sure about new age ones.
hope this helps

As 172sport, some people remove the existing oil pressure swith, and plug the new oil guage sender straight into the block. This will stop the oil light from working.
The wire that runs to the new sender, if shorted to earth will show max pressure, and no pressure if disconnected. Check this first.
My next step would be to check to see if the standard pressure switch is still connected, if not fit one and see if you get the oil light on. It's located under the alternator.

cheers lads for quick response. the gauge is reading 0, nothing at all. no light on the dash at any point.
where is the oil pressure sensor on a bugeye? im running a sandwhich plate so get my readings from there.
surely driving 10 miles with no pressure would of done the bottom end by now?

Cheers Mit,
I disconnected the wire from the sender and it went to 7-7.5 bar(hunting between) and when i connect it goes to 0. running a sandwhich plate..
will check at lunch if the oil sender is still connected under alternator. havent seen any loose/disconnected wires there so cant it being undone

Ahh, if your using a sandwhich chances are the old pressure switch is still fitted. Look under your alternator, the standard switch is their. Does the oil light come on when the ignition is on, engine off?

Im not sure to be honest! if your worried about starting it up, then disconnect the crank sensor, turn the engine over for a few seconds, and the oil light should go out when the pressure's up, if it's there.

Right. went out to car and sensor is still connected. oil can lights up on dash and once started it goes out. disconnect the sensor and the light is removed completely.
im guessing now its a faulty sender/gauge.
anyone agree?

Even if the engine had gone pop you'd still have some pressure, all be it very low. (0.5-1.0 bar)
If the gauge is at 0 then if has the be a faulty gauge. If there was no oil pressure at all you'd have know about it by now.
