Talking just got my second scobby but need some good advice

2 weeks ago i got my second scobby after having to wait a year since my last (poxy 9 month ban)
my old car was a 555 wrx ra jap import was really nice car!

anyway i found a n reg 95 sti for sale and bought it it white with gold wheels,

after a week of driving it round with a big grin on my face i started to notice a few things when i put my foot down the boost had a stutter not like the turbo was going more like it was not getting enough air, i can hear the car suck air in some times then it stops and bang the boost goes mad, my wrx ra didn't do this but it did have a induction kit on it, my sti is totally standard apart from dump valve and exhaust (cat back) i decided to get the spanners out and have a look at things i noticed a small pipe underneath the air intake (behind the mass meter part) was not connected so i reconnected it and now its boost really well in fact it seems like a completely diffrent car when i floor it now! but when i change gear the dump valve goes woshh then i hear a weird rattling sound near the cat ? doesn't seem to affect the car at the moment but sounds bad so i need some advice.

i have about £1000 in the coffers to spend i am going to get a de cat pipe and a induction kit it already has a new exhaust system thats less than 2 months old, if i get these parts and get a rolling road done i should one get more power and 2 eliminate this noise,

i live in oxfordshire where is best place for me to get the rolling road set up done? also if you guys had a budget of 1000 what mods would you add?

any advice is very welcome!

thanks in advance

The rattling noise could be the heatsheild which is pretty common...Mod advice would be to upgrade the brakes first and foremost...Then with what money is left, decat will add a few more ponies

Its not the heat sheald its sounds like a scratching sound in the cat i know for sure its not heat sheld , is it somthing to do with a sensor in the cat ? or to do with waste gate maybe?

i am looking at a front mount intercooler and de cat, that would leave me plenty for brakes and re map

Id go for a Hybrid front mount from Harvey, £260 delivered and decats can be bought for just over £100. Brakes wise a set of Subaru 4 pots, godspeed discs and DS2500 pads is a good cheap setup and are not far off the performance of my Ksport 8pot setup.

For a remap your need an aftermarket ECU.

No need for a whole ECU unit. His ECU could be chipped and mapped.

what a juan kerr

the guy is looking for advice not sarky comments from a noob. 43 posts and an attitude like that would suggest you are still at school. grow up. better keeping your mouth shut and reading instead, you might learn something.

A tad pedantic dont you think??...My turn...the OE ecu can not be remapped unless you buy/fit an AFTERMARKET mappable board. So my first comment is more than valid dont you think.!

No I don't think so. I was just stating that there was no need to purchase an expensive item such as an aftermarket ECU when there are the alternatives that you have just mentioned.

Good point. I'd also go for some new shocks and springs if they have not already been done.

Or, if you have some money spare after the performance upgrades freshen up the front with a bumber from a MY99-00.

Yeah your right i did not finish school or do college!!!!!

i am a recruitment consultant and earn 40k plus a year i am 26 with 3 kids and a mortgage!

and a nice SCOOBY to boot!

every one else thank you for your comments and help!

would love some more clarity on weather or not i need a new ecu or my one could be mapped!?

i don't want my car to be a racing machine its often used to take kids to school in i just want a few light mods brakes are a defo so will be new wheels!

i am getting a front mount and induction kit! and now maybe a ECU (if i have to),

this car is a stop gap next year around June July i will be selling this on and buying either a decent type-r or a new shape sti, would like to get to some meets and have a closer look at both and maybe a spin in one,

if any one is oxfordshire based and has a type-r or bug/blob eye i would love to meet and maybe have a look over your cars and get some more info!

Again thank you every one for your help and comments

Your standard ECU cannot be mapped. But you you get a mappable chip or board to slot into your OE ECU. If you click the link above and flick through the website you'll understand what we mean.

Gold brembo's bolts straight on, the rotors do also as long as they are from a pre 05 sti (I'm sure this is when they changed the wheel PCD to 114) otherwise the will need re-drilling to suit your 100 PCD.

Wheels will no doubt be you only issue as clearance is tight using this caliper.
I use a Speedline Corse Tarmac wheel or a std STI wheel for trackdays.
