Default Damaged MAF

Bought my car about 14 months ago.. and for 12 months I had no problems.

I always wondered why there was black tape on the top of the MAF but never looked into it (if it aint broke don't fix)

Anyhow I have been plauged in the last few months with an annoying noise above 3000rpm.. The car was running like poo but giving an error 45.. I replaced the boost solenoide, air pressure sensor and uhh the other little box of tricks that lives witht hese items and reset the ecu..

Car flies again yay.. But still whistles on boost.

Last night I peeled back the tape to se the top of te maf cracked and a chunk missing :O

The maf works fine (if i unplug it the engine stops) so i removed the tape, cut a square off plastic (DVD Case) and siliconed it in place. DOesn't seem to have made a great seal so will have another go later.

ANyhow is this going to cause me problems.. new MAF is expensive and all that, but so is an engine
