Which top mount
I am in the process of buying upgrades for my classic.
I will be adding full decat, pump, VF28, and remap.
What top mount should I go for if any.
I am looking for a subtle improvement over the standard one.
Thanks

IMHO for a classic, an STi 8 intercooler upgrade is not worth it, you'll need custom fabrication to get it to fit and the larger STi bonnet scoop and undertray to benefit and you still end up with something that sits on top of a baking hot engine.
For similar money you can have the hybrid FMIC.

Bob if you dont want to go FMIC and dont want the hassle of trying to fit an STi 8 TMIC then you can fit a New Age WRX TMIC which will be easier to fit.
Should be some gains as I believe it is slightly bigger than the Classic.
STi TMIC from a JDM Classic is not worth it in my opinion as its virtually similar in performance than your OE one. Unless you're after some bling.
Other TMIC's are APS and Hyperflow which are massive, will fit better without the hassle BUT are soooo expensive.
By the way I take it this is for your RB5? I'm on the OC Site too.

The STi8 TMIC would certainly do the job if you don't want to go FMIC. Wouldn't bother upgrading otheriwise, many aftermarket TMICS are inferior to the ones produced by Subaru and the really good ones cost a fortune and still have the disadvantages of the TMIC configuration.

^ as NS04 says. Either fit a STi8 TMIC or a decent (Hybrid) FMIC. Both will cost around the same to do, but FMIC will give more headroom for any future mods.

Seems clear to me that he doesnt want to go the FMIC route. Its quite a transformation to go from a standard TMIC to a FMIC.
Yes the Hybrid FMIC is cheaper (I have one by the way) but factor in having to buy an IK, paying someone to fit it and then having to change your insurance details to cover it. It does all add up.
I know someone else with an RB5 that had his car mapped by Bob Rawle with a VF28 and standard TMIC and got 320/320 on Bob's Delta Dash.
Sounds like Bob R wants a bit more performance without going over the top, which all us FMIC's owners started out like. Its all good fun.

Fair enough if he doesn't want to go FMIC, but at least get an effective TMIC upgrade, which means the STi 8 one in my book! Otherwise your wasting money on something which won't perform any better, and in some cases, may perform worse!
I personally wouldn't go back to TMIC myself now Difference with the FMIC is remarkable!
