Default Damaged the rods in my engine. Do I fix it, sell it as it is or strip it? How much?

Hi

Not posted or been on the forum for a while so a little out of touch with prices etc.

Last night driving home one of the rods seems to have gone in the engine. The car is running circa 370bhp and I knew it was going to go at some time. I used to drive the car a lot, but recently it sits on my drive most of the time as I have a few other cars.

Anyway I am in the predicament do I fix it, sell it as it is or strip it for bits? I've spent quite a bit of money on the car over the past few years and already had the engine out to do the head gaskets just over a year ago. I have a mechanic friend who can help me do the work, but it is the cost involved in fixing the car that's putting me off.

The options I've got is to put a whole engine in, then get it remapped again. Fit a built block and get it remapped or rebuild the engine myself and get it remapped. I've seen whole engines from £400-£1000 but obviously don't know the condition of them. I've seen built blocks for up to £1200 (2.2 forged pistons, rods etc)

The car is a 1993 WRX

So what do I do? Do I fix it, sell it or strip it?

How much would I get if I sold the car as it is? (see below for list of parts)

How much would I get for each of the parts if I stripped it?

cheers

It is too nice to strip and sell in bits, get yourself a 2.5 bottom end for about £1300 and job done.

Thanks for your replies guys. The problem is I am on the limit of my standard box already. I've had to replace it before as the box went last year. I just fitted another standard box as it was only £400 compared to a dog box/hybrid/6 speed. I'd need to budget another £2k plus for a box if I went for more power.

What he said mate. Gearbox will be an issue, but it'll be an issue if you rebuild to current spec anyway!

Nice job; looks very nice and if you can do the rebuild yourself, put the money save towards a new age 6 speed.
