AFAIK it's a carbon canister for condensing petrol vapor back into liquid and returning it to the tank. There's another under the bonnet but it looks different. They weigh a lot and they can be removed, but it's quite a hassle and may upset MOT testers if they notice.

There are 2 fitted? Mine didn't have a carbon can at the rear?

r u sure on that? would a carbon filter condense petrol vapor back to liquid? i think not but I'm interested if you can direct me to some detailed explanation. if this is the case then i guess all new cars have one y would it upset mot don't think they test vapor from tank. y would you need one at the engine? in the pipe it would be 100% liquid, other wise i would think you would get miss fires.
Bul(cough) i don't mind eating humble pie but if that is the reason I'm interested in learning

also from my experience carbon filters weigh very little.

any one else any other suggestions or confirmation.

IMO the carbon canister should not be taken off the car, it helps purge your fuel system, if you remove it you are sitting on a bit of a time bomb.
