Default Engine running lumpy at low revs

hi guys.

i picked up my car today and drove it for the first time, it is great and pulls like a dream but there are a couple of niggles.

1. at low revs driving, say in 2nd gear at 15mph it is very lumpy but as soon as i put my foot down it seems to clear, it does this at low revs in all gears when my foot is just resting on the accelartor. i think it is ony doing it when it get warm. any ideas ?

2. i have the biggest of exhausts 5" tail pipe but it sounds nothing like a scooby, it sounds more like an evo, i cant stand it, what would i need to change to get that noise back in my life.

please help David

what intercooler and turbo has the car got, i get quite a bit of turbo lag at low revs since i fitted my front mount intercooler. all turbo cars have some lag so runing at really low revs will sometimes be a bit lumpy. not sure how your getting an evo sound the boxer engine in the scoob is pretty destinctive.

have the headers been changed to equal length jobbies???
..that would explain the noise

it has the standard 1994 sti turbo an dintercooler.

its not lag, its to lumpy for that but it is only when i am coasting with my foot on the peddel, as soon as the turbo spools it stops doing it.

a couple of years ago i had a crazy wrx and that sounded amazing but this car sounds so tame it doesnt sound like the boxer engine, only on tick over but as soon as you boot it it just sounds like an evo or something like that.

yeah, its the manifolds/headers that give the engine its burble (unequal length d/s to n/s as standard )

maybe its just the size of the exhaust, the bafflers create alot of the burbble from the exhaust so if you have a straight through with no bafflers it could change the noise. not sure what they sound like if you change the manifold and all the way through. only people i know have just fitted larger exhausts of the same type.

Dump valve is in a funny place (looks like my old Blitz one).

Change the exhaust possibly for a smaller system perhaps?

yiour manifold looks quite different to mine on my 93wrx (although i can't see much of it tbh).

do you think that because there is such a long pipe going to the dump valve that it coild be leeking boost befroe it builds up.

and about the exhaust, my wrx that i had before had a bigger exhaust than this one and it had that fantastic flat 4 sound,

there are 3 boxes in the exhaust could this be the problem

You have aftermarket headers on the car and probably equal length hence no burble.

my wrx 93 import has just started doing exactly this. was being a bit annoying when cold and i hadnt changed the oil for around 7 8 months so thought this might be the problem.

changed oil and coolant the other day and its made my problem 10 times worse. i went from 0-40w to 10-60w and changed oil filter. now when i start the car from cold its idling ok at first but if i try to drive it will kangaroo everywhere and is impossible to drive.
anything over 3000rpm it will go ok (but dont want to when cold) and when warmed up it drives normally. wasnt nearly as bad until i changed the oil and coolant though.

dont think your have a problem with anything modified i think you may have same problem as me as in your vid it sounds similar to my car. been talking to a few other peolple and they think might be something a bit more serious like head gasket going. fingers crossed its no though.
