Default What kinda power should a old WRX have?

Im currently looking at a k-reg WRX import with 56k on the clock which is very low for a older car, now the car looks pretty standard apart from a aftermarket universal back box which I think has been fitted by the last owner in the UK.

Now before you ask, I havent had a chance to look under the bonnet yet but regardless of mods, ruffly what kinda performance can I expect from a older WRX in standard form?

My current car is a lightly mod'd Saxo VTS 16v with about 130bhp so Im expecting the step up to be quite big even tho its a heavier car.

K reg WRX will be 240ps book power, usually they run around this to slightly less depending on condition, and obviously the 240ps was on Jap fuel.

Am I right in thinking early models are a 2.0ltr?

Are all imports detuned as a rule to run on 95ron or are they left set at the higher Octane rating and have to use 98ron.

Cool

All JDM imports are 2.0ltr. Even the new ones. Run them on the highest octane you can get. V power or tesco 99. Unless its been mapped for lower. Run in on 95 and your asking for trouble.

As above, full tank of tesco 99, reset ecu, go for a drive and let the ecu learn the fuel, sorted!

my early my95 240ps wrx produced 235.4 at the flywheel on sunday not bad for a standard engine in a 13 year old car

to throw a spanner into the works, my old K reg with over 150k on the clock quite often ran happily on supermarket 95 ron with no signs of detonation. When I had a power fc fitted and mapped (on 97 super) I still used 95 quite often as it was convienient for me to do so.

Jap 100 ron fuel I believe wasnt available when the K plates were available, however on I think the V3 cars particulary the sti's they do need the better fuel

I got the very same motor mate, few mods, induction kit, full decat and chipped to run on 97 ron. I come from BMW stock, mainly 3.5ltr 245 bhp 5ers, this is my 1st Scoob and personally am well impressed the power/performance, so to come from Saxo 130 bhp, boy you will think your flyin.
One thing i have noted, she runs much better on V Power than any Super Unleaded i have tried.
Go on, step over to the dark side
