Ok from what i gather this can be a common problem, basically mine is on the fritz, it showed half tank when it was near full, filled up and it slowly crept to 3/4 only to drop off again, anything below 1/2 seems to read fine.

I take it these things have 2 senders, so which one does the top half of the guage?
