engine internals
im thinking of ugrading my turbo from a td04 to a td05 to go with the remap, fuel pump upgrade, induction kit, plus various other bits and pieces, i want to no if the standard wrx internals would cope ok with the additional upgrade?
hi, i have a WRX 1994 jdm, which currently run on TD05 as standard. at 1 bar its running at 300BHP, 278lb of torque.
however as i dont know what year your car is i cant really comment if your car will be ok. Plus it all depends on how you maintain your car, i.e. regular oil changes, etc etc. if you provide more information im sure someone would be able to give you a better idea.
however keep in mind no car is the same and every car reacts and behaves differently and it also depends on how yo maintain it and look after it and drive it.

i think you would be fine getting more power from it without doing much harm to the internals. if i was in your shoes, i would prolly do the following mods:
- TD05 - You can prolly source a 2nd one from subaru breakers
- Ported Headers - Harvey and many others do porting on here
- Upgraded fuel pump - Walbro 255l pump
- Upgraded Injectors 440cc yellow injectors
- version 4 or above Intercooler TMIC
- Remap - Probably ESL - Live Map board - Power FC ( a bit harder to find for 93 - 96 models)
- higher rated NGK spark plugs. PFR7 i think. may have spelled it wrong
that should see you easily and safely see you in the 300 ish mark. i wouldnt use the standard intercooler for anything above 280ish as after that they are poor.
i think once you have done all the above you would be very happy with the performance of your car and it still will be reliable as long as you service and maintain it regularly.
i hope that helps. im sure someone will prolly give you a slightly different set-up. however that is what i would do.

I have a 3 port boost solenoid instead of the standard for my year 2 port...... early wrx's had the 3 port as standard, the 3 port gives a finer control over the boost as far as im aware.... when i had the apexi mapped it was suggested it would be better switching to the 3 port version.

just to add i ran my old my95 wrx at 419bhp and 370ft/lbs on standard internals for over 2 years without any problems, i then sold the car to a friend and he ran it in this spec plus added a few hp too for another year before selling it on.

Include a post 96 map sensor and a decent exhaust system to the above list and power wise expect around 320-330. Anything over this then personally I would consider the internals long term on a 13 year motor gear box and so on.
