The back end of my scoob is always the first to go on the way out of corners. It looks nice and can be corrected but wouldn't a four wheel slide make for faster and more predictable cornering?

Is it just my Scoob that does this?

Does anyone do a four wheel slide modification?

Stu.

Hi m8
I've had discussions before on this board as I slide the back out in mine also. Does not seem to be common though. Could be driving style or tyres. I reckon tyres in my case as I have Firestones on the back and do not trust them that much. Too tight to buy new ones though so will wait till they wear out.
Must admit I've now changed to going even slower into the bend but power out more.
Cheers
Alasdair

I would check if a previous owner may have fitted an uprated rear anti roll bar. This can induce oversteer.

Alas - youre right In that I do welly it out of the bend. The tyres are good and the same all round. CC - theres no suspension mods apart from Eibachs (which are way to soft in my opinion).

add 1mm of toe in to the rear wheels. This will cure it.

Alas - I've got Firestones on the back of my Ford Focus, and it's tail-happy too. They are seriously crapola!

Pete, so thats the bottom of the wheels sticking out 1mm? Can you explain the effect this will have.

It's had the Barrats fast road geometry setup if that makes any difference.

1 mm Toe in means the back of the wheel out 1mm from the front of the wheel (top to bottom is camber)
Same adjustment is often called "tracking" on the front.

The setting pete recommended will add stability by inducing forces in the sidewall of the tyre before and throughout a corner.

Your garage may not have been aware that this was adjustable as on many cars it is fixed.

Catflap, it's good fun but it ***** me up sometimes. I don't envy your understeer though. Get the Barrets geometry settings. The back end will be all over the place when you nail it out of a corner.

CC & PC, the Barrets readout shows the rear wheels in at the back is positive toe. The current setting is 0 deg 4’. To get 1mm It should be at 0 deg 20’.

Does this sound right?

Sounds about right at 0Deg 20. I think 1 degree = 4 mm at the rim,

Need to do the maths......Cos' theta n' that! Also depends if you measure toe in at the tyre or rim and whether 15,16,17,18 maybe even 19" wheels !!

Cool

Don't forget to check your tyre pressures

A little low at the rears might allow the back end to slide away...

my my00 does exactly the same, slight understeer changing 3/4 turn to oversteer. I have the standard so3s, have to admit though the whole thing is very predictable and consistent. I just thought that was the way the car was mean't to behave.
