Default Fault code readers

Can anyone recommend a decent fault code reader that does not require the use of a PC?

Have had a look about and there seem to be a lot of products that you need a PC for (think the ESP one is the most popular) but not a lot of stand alone ones......

Must be able to read Newage ECU's....

I have a ScanGauge II and it is very useful for recording fault codes.

As fitted to my old MY03 WRX

Now fitted to MY06 STi.

The MAC tool guy was selling a tiny one for £45 + vat last Friday, it is powered from the EOBD socket and looks a nice handy bit of kit.

One of our apprentices bought one, I will get some more info off it tomorrow if he has it with him...

Both of those look pretty good - I'll check out their websites.

Can you comment on my other question about the PSI3?

apparently the psi3 is very good with all the info it gives you and would also look good fitted in dash if you had a single din head unit, but it does cost a lot more.
so it all depends on your budget.

Someone will correct me If I'm wrong, but I don't think you could use a fault code reader on a 95. The OBD port was only being introduced as standard on cars from 96.
However, you are still in luck, because you can still read fault codes for free:
