there is a special tool to hold the pulley while the bolt is undone. But its not needed. There are four holes around the edge of the pulley. Rest in two 10mm(about 50/60mm lomg) bolts opposite to each other. Then use a breaker bar/tyre leaver or similar to put between them and lock the pully while un-doing the bolt. This just keeps the pulley locked up. There is a tool designed to go in these holes. but for a one off its not worth it.

I always use a breaker bar and the starter

Did this yesterday morning on a pug im fixking up (it only cost me £50). Although not sure i would use this method on the scooby, but on a car thats worthless why not ... Makes a lovely crack when it comes off heh

Less rotating mass, therefore the engine spins up a bit quicker - the same effect as fitting a lightweight flywheel.............

No mapping required unless you want it on paper the Bhp's you may gain .

If you have the car in fifth and someone with there foot hard on the brake that will help when breaking it

Does it actually give you BHP or is it just like loosing weight in your car?

my main reason for changing it is for dress, the old steel one is rusty and the paint is flaking off etc, loosing another kilo or so is a bonus. i dont think i will notice any difference is power or responsiveness by removing that much weight from the crank. Still not fitted it yet, weather was rubbish last sunday so gonna do it on saturday 5th gear with foot on the brakes sounds good.

thanks guys

Rich

I personally dont do it that way cos it takes a couple of turns to lock the box/diffs up etc. Your turning the engine backwards and its not hard to jump a tooth or two on the timing belt
