Default 93 Import ... Where is my ecu?

Just upgrading my ecu and ready to change it over. I believe it is in the passenger footwell and have had a brief look. However, to make it as stress free as possible can someone tell me the following.
1. How do I get the carpet up easily?
2. Is the ecu under the metal kick plate or further back?
Please be as idiot proof as you can in your description as I am a complete muppet when it comes to taking on things on the car.
Cheers.

Easy matey.

As you said it's under the carpet under the passenger footwell. It's on the slanty part were you put your feet

It's under a metel plate which if i remember has 4 bolts and is also easy to take off.Carpet just lifts up then sits back down again.

As i said Easy

Is it wise for you to attempt an upgrade on such an imortant part of your car, if you can't even lift the carpet?

I am simply replacing an early ecu with a Z4. Hardly rocket science I agree, but it is always good to look for advice for any job you have not done before

changing the ecu is probably the easiest modification you can do! Though the big plugs can be a pain to get off on occasion. Think I've shouted "get the F*** off" on a number of occasions

Gently pry them out with a flat headed screwdriver was the way i found it easiest to do.

Thanks guys ... Job done and it was easy thanks to your help, and yes the big plug was a b*tch to get out ... screwdriver idea sorted that one.
I am much happier now with the Z4 ecu. The car boosts more and seems to spool up much faster.

You'll find the z4 has a much better fuel map.

Boost Targets & Fuel-Cut Limits
WRX/STi Saloon ECU's 2C, U8, W6, W9 - 11.47psi held to redline. Fuel-cut 14.57psi
WRX (1995/96) ECU Z4 - 12.71psi, dropping to 11.78psi @ 6600rpm. Fuel-cut 15.65psi

specs for your old ecu vs the Z4
