Default Am I wise???

Thinking of getting a WRX wagon for use as a second car, the thing is that my budget only stretches to about £2k. I've seen a few advertised and on e-bay, but my question is what would I be letting myself in for? Is it possible to get a half decent standard, non molested example for this price? What are the major costly things to look for and also what are they like to work on? I'm not too shabby with the spanners although I'm no trained mechanic!
oh and can you use the OBD hadheld code readers on them to check for fault codes when buying?
Thanks
Tom

Only 99+ cars are OBD compliant.. and even then it wouldnt show you physical problems with the car only sensor faults etc.

2k will get you a pretty old car unless you are very lucky.

not bad but I've only got £2k tops to play with, plus I'm a bit scared about reliability with modified cars, especially this age.

Remember the WRX is a 'performance' car, it will always be more expensive to run than a regular estate car..

ok not a problem ive had it 18 months and changed the manifold gaskets thats it in 18 months the only thing that has let me down (common problem) and it was a cheap fix.
dont worry about modded cars because mine only has very minor mods around 300bhp for an impreza is nothing mate and very common place on here with most having alot more.(with no issues)
strange but this has been the most reliable car i have owned.
