Hi guys, looking for some advice, i have just bought a '99 wrx and i'm planning to put my '97 engine in, does anyone know if i need to use different pulleys or will the ecu read the '97 ones ??

When you say engine do you intend to replace the short or long block?
IIRC the pulleys will not be compatable but that's the least of your worries as the heads will not match your inlet manifold, fuel rails etc.

Short block = just the block, no heads
Long block - full engine i.e. block and heads
97 and 99 heads will not take the same manifolds or pulleys and probably not even take the same cam covers etc

ok, i have a complete engine from the 97 wrx and i can get hold of the 99 heads but they require work to the cam journals cams and a skim as they got hot and have marked, was hoping that i would be able to drop my engine in without to many changes, starting to look a bit more difficult now, any suggestions, just checked and your right the inlet ports are diffrent could i use the 97 manifold with the 99 loom ?
