All hell broke loose on the dash as every light lit up saying that basically I had fooked everything that runs back to the ECU, which is a lot!
Car wouldn't start and not a lot would work really, this is what happens when you let 12v go into the wrong wire haha!!

so did this happen out the blue or did it happen when you crossed the wire over and turn the ignition on,
ie rewired the stereo, then next time ignition was switched on the ecu blew?

did they happen to be the capacitors around the IAC valve drive circuit? I know they are subjected to high transients due to inductance of the stepper motor. this can short out these capacitors.

those are T-filters you burned out.
Only way to destroy those are by to much current.
So I expect that you have a shortcircuit somewhere which caused this.
check all wiring to sensors and such for short circuit
BTW What year ECU is that, it ain't equal to mine MY99 ecu

Blown an ECU on a Corsa once.
...tip: never put 12volts to a 5volt CAN bus interface wire (last wiring diagram I'll ever trust)
Result, one new PCM..which is blank, as are all Vauxhall units (indentical unit is used in most of their cars regardless of model), so had to be reflashed at thr mercy of the dealers
(even if the CANbus interface specifications state that interface should be able to take a maximum limit of 16volts...obviously not in this case )

I managed to fry my parents honda accord wiring loom once.. And that was being careless with 12v supply to a radio. Did all sorts of wierd things, like if you put the sidelights on the ignition would come on. Certainly sounds like its short circuit related!

its a new GEMS ECU, how you mean short circuit, ie a cable has come out of a connector and touched down to earth, but i thought if this was the case the fuse would blow?
cheers

Your short could be further up the wiring loom, say for example the wire crossed with the cigar lighter live.. Thats on a 30 amp fuse usually so your ECU would fry long before the fuse popped.
Just think, the wiring from the ECU goes all over the car, it could be anything..
Im not saying it is a short.. but most equipment thats fried that baddly has had way too much current through it.

sometimes the wiring on the printed boards will be burned out earlier than the fuse of the car.
by looking at the picture you most likely have a problem with something connected to most left connector.
Try trace back to which connector pin the burned out components are connected.
on this connector is wired:
IAC valve
AC relay
fan's
pressure sensor and switch
ignition control
fuel injectors.
check all wiring from ecu to these components. Maybe you worked on one of them recently or near them.

well its still in a garage where its just had the 2.5 rebuild in so could be anything
the thing is it just went, it had the base map done then was waiting for a dyno, started up then fried,
i cant see the cigar lighter cable going down to the ecu if it hasnt been touched as the company are blaming me even though i havent touched the car, its been in there hands from the start,
the comapny are the nuts they know there stuff so i aint bad mouthing them just a glitch in the pipe line
all help needed thanks
mark.

I think satancom ment as an example that it could be cross wired with the cigar lighter cable.
I would expect it to be a short to ground of one of the wires to the components I mentioned. Especially since it has been rebuild.
I think the garage people damaged a wire somewhere during the build and it has shorted to ground resulting in the damaged ECU.

I would look at the list SL1000 has given you and check for any obvious damage to the wiring loom in these areas!
