Neutral position switch again?
Surely not.
Had multiple misfire CELs in February 2006 at 56400 miles. New Neutral Position Switch cured that one.
Now at 78000 miles, getting similar symptoms . Misfire on cylinders 1, 3 and 4 all at the same time, as if I wouldn't notice slightly rough running
Can the NPS last as lttle as 20k miles?

Sorry when it comes to technical matters i don't pull anyone's leg.
The problem can usually be fixed by changing a part that costs pennies. But it will cost you a few quid to find out, significantly less than the cost of a new switch however.

My car had this problem. It was causing my car to DET, when the switch was vibrating on/off around 5K revs. Not sure if the ECU would report that as a misfire?
Poor design if a simple switch like that can cause an engine to DET.
Looks like Subaru built the switch tip out of plastic, to earn dealers a few quid later down the line

I was told that it tells the ECU the gearbox is in neutral. This allows it to NOT activate the AVCS if IN neutral....

P.S. Don't know why.... except you don't need power in neutral maybe ?

You can put a thinner washer between the gearbox and the switch to cure it for a while longer.
