Default how can i tell what engine

i have a 96 wrx (registered 31/12/96) and ive looked up the chassis code and it says its a wrx but my inlet manifold is red (flakey) and it also have yellow injector which i thought were both sti items and then today i had a look at the ecu and it has a 6S ecu and from digging round on the net seems to be the sti 3 ecu

is there any way to tell if it is a sti engine for sure ?

I would presume so could ask someone like David at Welcome to the API website as they rebuild impreza engines on a regular basis.

Ecu maybe a 1S facelift 96/97 ecu i think.

The evidence so far suggests that the engine might be an STI. But the only way to tell for sure is have a piston out. Even checking the cams ID would only prove STI cams and still not confirm what pistons are fitted.

A full strip I am afraid, is the only way to be sure.

One of the ECu guru's will tell you what that ECu code is.

Good Luck David APi

JF1 chassis codes are for UK / Euro cars and a WRX JDM car will have a chassis number starting GC8 / GDA / GDB etc All lists I have seen on the forums deal with JDM cars so there will not be any info relating to a chassis number staring JF1.
