fuel level warning lol...

what does the light look like, where abouts on the dash. Could possibly be CEL warning and at cruise it could be detecting a lambda sensor fault ?

If it's CEL then ecu should have a fault code logged.

I agree that would be a sensible answer. But the Cel is orange, hence asking what light is on.

Red are generally battery/alternator,Oil,brakefliud/handbrake, srs on some cars.

I know the CEL is orange on newage, wasn't sure about 2000. I was working on the principal it might look red to the poster. Was it a pic of a little engine on the classics like the newage ?

You need to check if there's any codes stored in ecu in that case. I don't know if MY00 is OBD-II or connector plugs which you can use to run self diagnostics. I'm sure someone will tell you, if it's plugs then this shows you how to check the codes yourself. I'd guess lambda or MAF, more likely lambda if it's running Ok.

This is probably a better description, but site is out at the moment

think your maf might be on its way out. had the same symptoms on my my97 before. Better to diagnose it before getting a new maf

A maf problem won't throw a CEL, its probably just the lambda (oxy) sensor.

The ecu will work fine with a completely failed lambda but it will throw a cel as a warning only under steady driving conditions.

also the knock sensor could be on its way out as the same thing happened to my 97 as in the check engine light would come on a then go off. came on but went off when under braking for some reason, did the car still run ok when the light came on because mine did, then one day the dreaded light stayed on and thats when i checked the codes.
