droning noise

Default droning noise

hi all i have had a fairly loud droning noise for a few weeks now. the noise gets faster as the car does and slower as i slow down. i was told it was because i had fairly low tire tread on the fronts so i changed them yesterday but noise still there. I have also changed the diff oil but noise still there. it seems to start when i reach around 30mph if i put car in to nutral it's still there so thinking it isnt gear box. could it be diff bearings or wheel bearings. any ideas anyone. thanks

that was my main thought. i had on of are techs at honda have a listen to the wheel bearins with stethascope (he owns a scooby) he said rear bearings sound a little louder than the fronts. is there any way of checking or should i just get the rears changed. thanks

When my rear offside bearing went all i got was a clicking noise when changed direction front to back.

Got to be honest it does sound the main culprit to me.

Other possible (common) is the rear diff, but more likely wheel bearing.

Mine used to have a droning noise that got louder the faster I went, but it seemed to go away when the wife wasn't in the car!

does the sound tend to come from a wheel direction? like back left or front right.
It more than likely is a wheel bearing or a track rod end

I'm baffled to know how the help a track rod end makes a drone - anyone any ideas.

I have found trying to track a bearing noise to a wheel a right pain as it tends to get fed through the body, and come be coming from anywhere!

thanks for all the comments guys. the car is going into subaru next week for the rear shocks so i'll get them to take a look.
