tbh mate they all do the same so it don't really matter which one you get
but i would say go for the JR panel filter for £35.99 from scoobyworld.

They have a few others on there as well heres the Link

ill get a JR one then I reckon, Im gonna see what difference it might make, I fitted a k&N induction kit and I can already tell a difference in throttle response and it does seem to be a little quicker, sounds better too - so ill give the panel filter a whirl.

You cant fit an induction kit AND a panel filter, the induction kit replaces the standard airbox.

I'm sure when this was tested Green panel filters came out top in the test so thats what I have. Must add I use to have an ITG but switched to the dry green filter after I killed a MAF on 2001 WRX Uk300

I honestly don't think you will be able to tell any difference in power or torque over standard as differences can be measured in tenths of bhp.

You will save a few quid however, I had a green cotton panel filter and washed it every 6 months, 2 years later it looked brand new

I've just fitted a Green Panel Filter. Can't feel any difference!, not really expecting to either for such a small mod. Got it in the hope that it will help the engine.i.e better quality part. £35 from Scoobyparts.com

Are they difficult to fit and does anyone know of any instructions anywhere online?

No need to cut anything - it is a direct replacement. Just undo the two clips on the airbox, open it, take out the paper one, stick the nice new olied panel filter (or whatever you have), close, clips - done! 3mins flat.

You should notice a louder induction noise and whether or not you can feel 1or 2bhp extra is not the point - the engine will be treated better so worth the £30 outlay (especially when Subaru charge £15 for paper ones every couple of years).

I've got a green panel filter, as mentioned above I got it free with another purchase so might as well use it if it is better than the standard.

I'll try fitting it and come back when I've broke my car

Green Panel filter in my opinion I have had three Imprezas and used K&N, JR and Green...I would rate the Green as being the best and it is also around £10 cheaper than a K&N which is an added bonus.

I'm not sure about the K&N and JR items but the Green Cotton item i had on my 97 STI, there are some lugs that have to be cut off for a snug fit in the box, it comes with instructions. The fit was tighter than the OE STI and paper ones. But its not difficult.

Prodrive have tested the OEM filter and there is practically zero pressure drop across it.... i.e you'll get no benefit from changing it. Plus you know with the OEM one that it fits correctly and will do it's job!

People seem to rate the Green filter. Went for a K&N myself, was a real bugger to fit as the lip is fatter than the OEM paper one - had the devil of jobs getting the top back on the airbox, lots of swearing and skinned knuckles. It does seem to make a difference - could just be psychological, dunno - but there's also the economics factor that it's mesh rather than paper, so will outlive the car in theory.
