Rev spike on gear Change, 05 WRX PPP Wagon
Help please, dont know if anyone has this or know what it could be, on gear change when driving the car normally, noticable between 2nd-3rd, 3rd-4th mainly, but when shifting gear after letting off the throttle the revs either hold for a fraction of a second or they spike by a couple of hundred RPM. Now this isnt me being a numpty changing gear as it doesnt do it every time, this is starting to do my head in, so if anyone has any ideas it would be a great help before I go back to the Main Dealers and lose the car for a few days . BTW the car is completely stock (for now) .

My MY01 also does it, only every now and then.
I used to think it was me, I believe they do have a neutral position switch on the gearbox so it may have something to do with that ???

I was hoping you might not say that, I test drove another car before getting this one and that did it, but this one I didnt notice when I took it out, does anyone know if there is a Subaru revision to fix this?? Or will a re-map fix the problem?? Lots of questions I know, but if it is a remap, I may have to start saving money until the warranty runs out. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Scooby Doo, Have you had it investigated? or do you just live with it?, I am at the stage where it is starting to be annoying, my old classic never had such technical problems.....

All the modern 'carb' cars ive had all had throttle release dampers on them, ie when releasing the throttle there a spring and oil damper that slowly (controlled) releases the throttle i always thought that it was for stopping snap oversteer and aiding down change to gears.
In a modern car maybe also to keep the emitions clean? (ie not throw fuel straight at the cat)
Incidently my boss says his audi TT 225 does this much worse on his (he made that comment when he drove mine)
I could however be talking complete tosh

Hello Simon,
Thanks for the thoughts, the emmision thing or the snap oversteer could make sense if it did it everytime, but it is intermittent, which makes me thing it is a problem rather than a planned function, and its only noticeable really when you are driving normally (shifting between 3-5K ish), if you are giving it a proper workout then it is either not noticable or doesnt do it... and to be honest I would prefer a bit of oversteer but that just me.. Thanks again.

I must admit that when i had my 03 WRX PPP it was much more noticable, almost embarasing sometimes, like you say a little intermittant in level and duration, my 05 STI PPP is so consistant that i can time lifting a split second before dipping the clutch and get no spike at all.

Looks like it is something I will have to live with, I wonder if it is down to the PPP ecu?? as that seems to be a common theme . Never mind, thanks for your help though .
