Engine Cut out - wont restart - help!!
Hi, got a 1996 Impreza WRX import. A couple of days ago, the engine misfied a few times and then cut out. No check engine light appeared, no temparature anomolies, nothing.
The starter motor is turning over, but the engine wont fire. Removed a spark plug, but they are not sparking. So, I suspected crank sensor, bought one and replaced that. Still no joy. Anyone got any ideas ? Also, can I use a standard OBD sensor to get the diagnostic code if I went and bought one ?

Not the fuel pump.
Also, I tried to get the diagnostics to work by connecting the green plugs and black plugs together as described on Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Reading ECU Fault Codes browse
but it will not enter diagnostic mode. I cant get the Check Engine light on at all. I took the dash apart and checked the check engine light, as it is not even appearing when second ignition is on. Bulb is fine, but swapped it for another one just for good measure. So, no check engine light, and no diagnostics. I have no idea - Anybody ?

In case anyone is interested, these symptoms point to ECU failure. In my case, the ECU was failing because the main power fuse to it had blown. replacing this got the ecu going again. Reason the main fuse was blown - one of the ignition coils had melted (obviously not the one I pulled out initially to look for a spark).
