So what are your options if you want to map a 4 plug ecu above 1.1 bar?

Power FC
ESL Live Map

Any others?

Depends how much you want to spend on the ecu (Motec,Gems,Link,Hydra etc give you a lot but at a price).
The Apexi is hard to come by for earlier cars(i think authorised dealers only) so the PolarPerformance seems a very good way to go.
I have a 93 wrx and for me (and what i want from the car) will be going this way (eventually)

Apexi is good... I run one myself in an MY00. But if I could map my OEM ECU(currently locked to ECUTEK) then the Apexi would be off the car due to the much better boost and Knock control in the OEM ECU.

On the Pre 96 to run more then 1.1bar with an Apexi, you need the following :

2nd Form of boost control as the Apexi and OE Map sensor limit boot to around 1.1bar. The work around is either a Dawes valve or electronic Boost Controller
Or
Apexi Boost Control Kit
Or
Apexi Map Sensor

On the Pre 96 to run more then 1.1bar with the OEM ECU and ESL Live map adaptor, you need the following :

Post 97 Map Sensor (About £40 2nd hand)

The other advantage of using the OEM ECU and the ESL live map adaptor is that you retain 3D boost and Knock Control. Neither of which are provided by the Apexi.

BUT.....

you also need to consider the following :

Uprated fuelling i.e Pump & Reg on 380's or 440's or 550's
The 380's are getting near to their limit at 1.1bar so would need at least a pump and reg upgrade to the fuelling.

Uprated Intercooler i.e 97> or FMIC

Scott if you really want your Oe ecu mapped drop me a line.

The early pfc is getting harder to get hold of but I have two in stock and can currently still get them. the ESL board is also very good.
