Definatly MAF. Mine did exactly the same after i disconnected the battery (along with other peoples) and a trip to the clinic soon sorted it, They say it is common after due to the maf being "worn" and the ecu cannot find it when it resets its self.

It's always "The MAF" on here ....

Start the car, and on idle pull off the plug to the MAF. If car stalls, MAF is likely OK. If car still runs, then MAF is doing nothing and is likely dead.

Depending on car age, early whole unit was about £280, later cars where just the sensor is changed were about £80 IIRC.

PS - the reason you find this problem after having a flat battery for a while is that the ECU does learn the engine & sensors, and as the MAF starts to read slow / fail then ECU learns this and compensates for it ... so when you left battery flat you effectively reset the ECU to factory settings, and the ECU will need to relearn the engine. If MAF is dead I don't know what it will do, probably give an error and run rough?

Actually, just thought, if the ECU has lost it's learning then the maf plug removal - wether good or failed MAF - may not tell much ...as there will be no adjustment remembered inthe ECU.

Try anyway and post back.
