Default Turbo advice - Help, I'm confused!!!!

I have a 99/00 UK Turbo which I have had a few mods on, de-cat, dawes device, fuel pump, headers etc.

I now need a bigger turbo but I want the car to be drivable so I don't want huge lag. Whats my best option? TD05 16g/18g/20g, IHI 34? I'm lost with it now.

Does anyone know, can I fit any of these witout a remap or is that something that must be done?

Thanks for any help!!!

Michael.

i would think you would need a remap for any different turbo that you put on, 20g all the way

All will need a remap. My VF35 was great on my v4 WRX as a replacement for a TD04, much much better at around 300bhp. But when I moved to a FMIC, I found it struggled with compressor surge and have now changed to a TD05.

Thanks for that. Have you gone for a 20g? I'm running the 440cc injectors and have been told these should be ok with it?

Whatever turbo you go for you will NEED a remap.

20G not suitable for your car. Powerband too high in the rev range for a UK Turbo. In any case, your gearbox would give up the ghost pretty much straight away, to say nothing about the effect of the turbo on your engine's longevity: I think you really need uprated internals to run that turbo reliably. You'd certainly need bigger injectors etc..

VF35 probably best in terms of power/response if you're happy with a ceiling of about 330-340. You'll require an uprated fuel pump (which you have) and fitting a 3 port boost solenoid to improve boost control.

Have a word with David at Api

Sweet, thanks for that. If you get chance could you send me a link for API? I assume they are on-line? Is that the best place for mew to get a turbo from?
